Call for Special Issues

Current Call For Special Issues

Fall 2024 Issue

Proposals Due: July 15, 2023

Jazz and Culture is seeking proposals from Guest Editors wishing to propose a special themed issue of the journal, to be published in Fall 2024. Interested scholars or groups of scholars are invited to submit brief proposals of 500 words, explaining the theme, possible topics for research articles, 3-5 potential authors to invite, and/or oral histories to solicit. The issue may be curated through invited submissions or solicited through open calls via a peer review process, at the discretion of the guest editors.

Duties of the guest editors may include (where applicable) inviting contributors and/or circulating a call for papers; selecting and coordinating peer reviewers; acceptance/rejection/revision decision process; helping authors respond to reviewers; writing an editorial introduction; assisting in the preparation of manuscripts; and checking publisher’s proofs. Guest editors will work in close collaboration with the journal’s editor-in-chief Michael Heller.

For consideration, please email proposals to Pittjazz@pitt.edu by July 15, 2023. All applications will be treated as strictly confidential.

Jazz and Culture is an annual, peer-reviewed publication devoted to publishing cutting-edge research on jazz from multiple perspectives. All methodological approaches are welcome, including ethno/musicology, music theory, and critical and cultural studies. Drawing upon recent trends in music scholarship, we further seek to interrogate a range of issues connecting music, race, class, gender, and other realms of social practice. We particularly encourage submissions exploring the music’s international scope.
